America’s Star Libraries 2018: The LJ Index of Public Library Service

On October 30, 2018, Library Journal published the 11th edition of America’s Star Libraries, the annual results of the ratings of U.S. public libraries based on the Library Journal Index of Public Library Service. Libraries are scored on the Index in 9 expenditure peer groups based on per-capita service outputs including visits, total circulation, circulation of electronic materials, program attendance, and use of public Internet computers.

In addition to the usual analysis of these ratings, the 2018 article includes the following special features: Waiting for WiFi, What’s Next (about future statistics to be added to the Index, database use and website visits), and Data Centered (an interview with Dr. Linda Hofschire, Director of the Library Research Service at the Colorado State Library and its Research Institute for Public Libraries (RIPL) conference and workshop series).
