On March 16, 2018, School Library Journal published a group of articles under the banner “School Librarian State of the Union.” My second article in that group is There’s Little National Data About School Librarians. What Happened? This article describes the near-total absence of data about school libraries and librarians, particularly since 2012, when both the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) stopped the two major collections of such data. It is a state of affairs unthinkable to public and academic librarians.
